What the service does

Hoot records short sound clips during your night, labels them automatically (snoring, talking, coughing, other sounds) and presents them to you in the morning, along with an estimate of your sleep stages.

Hoot is not a medical device

This is the most important point on this page. Hoot makes no diagnosis, detects no illness and never replaces medical advice. Sleep stages shown without a smartwatch are an estimate computed from sound and movement, not a clinical measurement.

The app must not be used to assess, screen for or monitor a sleep disorder. If you are persistently tired, if you are told about pauses in your breathing at night, or if your sleep worries you, see a doctor.

Acceptable use

By using Hoot, you agree to:

• inform the people present in the room before recording;
• not use the app to record anyone without their knowledge;
• comply with the sound-recording laws applicable in your country;
• not share a clip involving another person without their consent.

Free version and subscription

Recording your nights and the morning report are free, with no time limit. The Hoot Pro subscription unlocks every moment of every night, unlimited history with trends, and reading your real sleep stages from the Health app.

Hoot Pro costs 4,99 € per month or 24,99 € per year, after a 3-day free trial. The prices shown in your country's App Store prevail.

The subscription is charged by Apple to your account and renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it at any time in your Apple account settings; deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.

Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited if you subscribe before it ends. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own rules.

Apple terms

The app is distributed through the App Store and Apple's licensed application terms apply in addition to these.

Availability and limits

The service is provided "as is". Sound detection relies on heuristics and is sometimes wrong: a label may be incorrect, and the app lets you correct it. We do not guarantee the accuracy of the labels, nor of the sleep-stage estimate.

We are not responsible for the loss of your recordings. Because they live only on your device, they disappear if you delete the app, reset the iPhone or lose the device, and we hold no copy of them.
