No account, no sign-up

Hoot asks for no email address, no password and no phone number. You have no account with us, so we hold no profile about you.

What stays on your device

The following is stored in the app's private space on your iPhone and is never transmitted:

• the audio clips captured during your nights;
• your night history, scores and statistics;
• the sleep stages estimated by the app;
• your settings (microphone sensitivity, reminder times, language, appearance);
• your answers to the questions asked on first launch.

The microphone

The app requests microphone access to listen to your night. All analysis (snoring and speech detection, sleep-stage estimation) runs entirely on your iPhone, with no internet connection. No audio clip is sent to any server, to us, to a third-party provider, or to any artificial intelligence service.

You can withdraw this permission at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. The app will then stop recording.

People sleeping near you

The microphone captures everything audible, including another person in the room. You are responsible for informing that person before recording. In several countries, recording someone without their consent is illegal. The app reminds you of this before your first night.

Health app data (HealthKit)

If you allow it, Hoot reads your sleep stages from Apple's Health app in order to compare them with your night sounds. This access is read-only: Hoot writes nothing into your Health record.

In line with Apple's rules, this data never leaves your device, is never used for advertising or marketing, and is never sold. You can revoke access in Health > Sharing > Apps.

Third parties actually used

Hoot only works with the following providers: Apple, RevenueCat, Vercel. No others.

• Apple: app distribution and payment processing. We never see your payment details; Apple only shares aggregated sales data with us.
• RevenueCat: subscription state management. This service receives an anonymous identifier generated by the app and the purchase receipt provided by Apple. It receives no audio recording, no sleep data, no health data and nothing that identifies you.
• Vercel: hosting of this website. Like any host, it technically logs visits (IP address, page viewed) to operate and secure the service. Those logs concern the website, not the app.

What we do not do

Stated explicitly, because these are the industry's most common practices:

• no advertising trackers, no ad network, no ads in the app;
• no analytics tooling inside the app;
• no selling, renting or trading of data;
• no profiling, no automated decisions about you;
• no sending of your recordings to any artificial intelligence service.

Notifications

If you enable the bedtime reminder, the app schedules a local notification on your iPhone. It is generated by the device: no notification server is involved, and we do not know whether you received it.

Retention and deletion

Your recordings stay on your iPhone until you delete them. The app automatically erases nights too short to be meaningful. You can erase everything at once in Settings > Your data > Erase all my nights. Deleting the app also erases all of this data.

Your rights

European regulation (GDPR) grants you rights of access, rectification, erasure and portability over your personal data. Because we hold no personal data about you, these rights are exercised directly from your iPhone: the data is with you, and only you can access or delete it.

Children

Hoot is not intended for children under 13 and knowingly collects no data about them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page is updated. A change that would broaden the use of your data would be announced in the app before taking effect.
